[pɔɪnt əv 'seɪl, englisch] der, -(s) - -/ -s - -, Abkürzung POS, Point of Purchase [-'pəːtʃəs, englisch], Abkürzung POP, der Ort, an dem ein Verkauf beziehungsweise ein Kauf getätigt wird. In der Werbung Bezeichnung für den Standort des Warenangebots. Durch besondere Maßnahmen der Verkaufsförderung (z. B. Displaymaterial, untermalende Musik mit eingeblendeten Werbeaussagen) an und in den Verkaufsräumen, bei Konsumgütern häufig Orte des Kaufentschlusses, sollen die Käufer beeinflusst werden (POP-Werbung). In Handel und Bankwesen wird mit POS auch der Zahlungsort bezeichnet, an dem neue elektronische Zahlungssysteme eingesetzt werden (POS-Systeme).
